Never one to say no to a tough case, Best Friends Felines founder Nikki Chapple recently took on one of her biggest challenges yet after being contacted by a property owner North of Gympie. After counting 80 cats, BFF knew they needed to step in to help. Within a week, BFF had organised a team to go on site, meeting with several other rescues to help bring the situation under control. On that day, we managed to catch 44 kittens and 12 adults, with another dozen incoming over the next few days.
Update: There are now only 9 cats still needing to be caught and transported into a foster home.
The first picture you see below is of 39 of those kittens, not living in that crate but being put there shortly before our arrival to help speed along the difficult process. After several hours on the property and catching as many cats as we could, we left the property owner with some crates and a supply of donated food to help support her until the remaining felines could be caught.
The scene we arrived to was confronting - all of the kittens were underweight, riddled with fleas, worms, coccidia and ear mites. They are roughly half the size they should be, with their tiny bodies being severely depleted of the nutrients they need to grow.
As you can imagine, this has been a hugely costly exercise for all involved. And with most of the cats now in care, the cost is only going to grow. We are asking our supporters and the community to dig deep to help us and these babies. Not only do they need food, litter and shelter, they will need all their vet work complete including desexing, microchipping, vaccinations and flea/worm treatment.
All money donated has been divided among the rescues directly involved in the care of these little ones based on how many they took in. These rescues include: - Best Friends Felines - Silver Linings rescue - I AM V - AWL - Paw Kitty Cat Rescue - Casey's Rescue - Kaye from Down Memory Lane - Eatons Hill Vet From the bottoms of our hearts, we thank you for your generosity. Your donations will all go directly to helping these beautiful Felines find their purfect furever homes!
